Optimo Schlafsysteme GmbH in Braunau am Inn/Upper Austria is a leading manufacturer of complete systems comprising mattresses and slatted bases and is Austria’s only manufacturer of slatted bases with its production facilities in Austria. In addition to mattresses and slatted bases, our product range also includes pillows and lifting aids for the care sector. Innovation and internationality play leading roles at Optimo.

The latest findings from the fields of ergonomics and sleep research are incorporated into product development. The company relies on the scientific know-how of leading competence centres such as the EIM Ergonomics Institute in Munich, the Sleep Medicine Research Centre in Regensburg and many others. With Optimo, customers are putting their faith in perfectly coordinated sleeping systems “Made in Austria” - at Optimo, all sleeping systems are manufactured with technical perfection and environmental friendliness. From its production facility in Austria, the company also guarantees the highest quality in terms of manufacturing and the materials used.

More than half a century of experience

Founded in 1954, the company has gradually expanded its core competence for ergonomically correct, healthy reclining comfort over the years. Today, Optimo is one of Austria’s leading manufacturers of innovative sleeping systems. Currently, some 180 employees produce around 310,000 units (mattresses and slatted bases) per year.

Foundation

1954

Foundation as a manufacturing company for slatted bases made of wood and wire.

Alois Kinder

1956

Alois Kinder takes over the company, first as managing director, later as owner, and develops it with care and vision into one of Austria’s largest manufacturing companies for slatted bases and later for sleeping systems.

Relocation to Braunau

1978

No longer having sufficient capacity, the company moves to its present location in Braunau am Inn. Wood and wire inserts disappear from the market as wooden slatted frames have long since made their triumphal march into the bedroom.

Sleeping systems

1980

Optimo becomes a supplier of sleeping systems (mattresses and slatted bases). The mattresses are initially produced by a supplier in accordance with strict Optimo quality specifications.

Motorised slatted base

1988

Optimo motorises the slatted base and brings maximum comfort and functionality to the bed.

In-house mattress production

1991

Start of in-house mattress production at the production facility in Braunau Optimo develops into the leading Austrian manufacturer of sleeping systems and increases its export activities.

austro|flex

1992

austro|flex, a premium label with its own product line, is successfully launched on the market. Since then, this second brand has stood at the peak of sleeping culture. Sales are made through selected specialist retailers and austro|flex studios.

2nd location

1994

Once again, capacities are no longer sufficient. The new Optimo mattress production facility is opened at a second location in Braunau. Optimo launches slatted bases that adapt to the entire body as an innovation and distributes these to a wide market. It is an example that many competitors follow.

35% export share

1997

Optimo continues to establish itself in the European market and increases its export share to a remarkable 35%. The Natural Edition is an example of on-going, successful product development. Solid wood slatted bases and mattresses made of natural materials form the basis for one of the most successful sleeping systems at the time.

austro|flex HWS-System

1999

The second generation of austro|flex celebrates its premiere. The austro|flex lumbar system becomes synonymous with the best ergonomic sleeping experience.
2007 and 2012 see further new products and product generations 3 and 4.

The next company expansion takes place but Optimo remains true to its Austrian roots.

Perfect ergonomics

2010

Optimo introduces a new generation of sleeping systems. Ergonomics as never before underline the company’s leading role in the area of sleep.

Callea: Box spring

2015

With Callea, Optimo offers an internal box spring system that takes sleeping to 7th heaven. The export share now nudges 50%.
